Yalla is an online open platform for refugees and local Dutch citizens to connect. We aim to contribute to the establishment of an inclusive society; online as well as offline. We do so by helping organizations and stakeholders improve their communication strategy with newcomers. In addition, we advise policy makers how they can improve their understanding for the target group. Yalla thereby is representing a Hub that allows for a reciprocal exchange of information. In doing so, we hope to establish a society in which refugees can deploy their talents and competences while continuing their lives in the new society.

We are searching for volunteers who want to assist our communication team and work with us towards the abovementioned goals. This volunteer position is an opportunity to get insight into current developments, challenges, discourses and policies around refugee-issues. The incorporation in our team will furthermore provide you with hands-on experience within an initiative that enhances its opportunity in promoting an inclusive and sustainable society. Finally, through Yalla, you can develop your team-work skills, cultural sensitivity and intercultural communication skills.

We offer a part-time volunteer position of one day (or two half-days) a week for a minimum duration of 6 months. The volunteer will start as soon as possible. Tasks include communication with our network via social media and e-mail, maintaining our website and social media pages, and helping to set up meetings. The voluntary position cannot be remunerated.

The volunteer is preferably someone in her/his second or last year of undergraduate studies with a background in social sciences. The volunteer should have demonstrable interest in the topics of diversity, communication, refugee reception and integration. Additionally, candidates should possess good editing skills, proficiency in English and Dutch, communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
